THE CHARTERED INSTITUTE OF ARBITRATORS ( SINGAPORE)

invites you to

THE CIARB SINGAPORE ANNUAL THOUGHT LEADERSHIP LECTURE

Professor Yas Banifatemi

The influence of French legal thinking on international arbitration – the case of Singapore.

Date: 24 June 2026

Time: 5:30 pm – 8:00 pm

(Registration starts at 5:30 pm and the Lecture at 6:00 pm.)

In-person venue: Mallesons

8 Marina View #36-01, South, Lobby Asia Square Tower 1, 018960

About the event

In 2017, the late Professor Gaillard wrote a seminal article on the influence of French legal thinking on international arbitration. A conference he organized in 2019 as part of the Paris Arbitration Week under the aegis of the International Arbitration Institute, which he chaired, brought together Judge Dominique Hascher and Justice Quentin Loh to discuss the same topic, with a focus on Singapore’s approach to international arbitration. About a decade later, this keynote speech will attempt to take stock of the evolution of the law and practice in Singapore and how the influence of French legal thinking – and Professor Gaillard’s own thinking – has continued to shape the development of international arbitration.
